INDEX CATS

FEB 13TH

What is INDEX and what does it have to do with NYC DEV & IBM presenting you INDEX CATS?  Well INDEX is a developer conference that challenges your assumptions about what a conference should be and brings a variety of business and educational communities together for what they have in common: a passion for technology and code.

What is a makerspace?  Well it can be whatever you want it to be, in a sense.  It is a lot like your local gym or coworking space but instead of barbells or glass cubicals you find a wide variety of tools and rapid prototyping machines.  Along with a passionate and diverse community of students, professional engineers and developers as well as hobbyists and amateurs.

H  A  R  D  W  A  R  E

You don't need to move to the suburbs and get a garage to use a hacksaw or make your own bespoke Internet of Things device.  You can do it right in the Greenwich Village off the 1 train's Christopher Street station.  If you wanted to, you could try to 3D print or laser cut your own jazz ukulele or work on that Comic Con costume.  You can make physical forms as well as electronic systems at the Fat Cat Fab Lab.

S  O  F  T  W  A  R  E

Just like your local gym; makerspaces often have classes.  And Fat Cat Fab Lab is no exception.  They have classes and meetups about a variety of subjects ranging from JavaScript & Machine Learning to 3D Printing.  That is why IBM has teamed up with the Fat Cat Fab Lab; so we can better help our local NYC ecosytem of doers, makers, and coders.

4 - 6 PM | w o r k s h o p s

4pm |   m e d i a   c o d e

This is a crash course in the what can be done with one part speech to text, one part Max MSP and one part Blender 3D with a twist of Python.  It turns out, that there are some little known but powerful programatic audio and video programing tools at your fingertips.

5PM  |  t j  BOT  MaKING

TJ Bot is a little something IBM research cooked up.  It is a fun yet practical personal chat bot assistant platform that uses a Raspberry Pi single board computer and Node JS.

M  O  R  E   2   C  O  M  E

These two workshops are just a taste of what we have planned for 2018.  Their is a variety of programing in the pipeline.  We have workshops, lunch and learns, office hours, panels and parties brewing.

3

6-9 pM | JAZZ SPEAKEASY

6:30 PM introductions & Announcements

We are going to take a few minutes to introduce the eventings hosts, make a few announcements and raffle off some prizes.

7:00 PM | lightning talks

Just like an hors d'oeuvre, a lightning talk is a delicious little morsel.  In this case we have prepared a sampling of interesting and innovative local fare.  Just enough to whet you appetite and not bore you before the jazz.

7:30 | speakeasy & JAZZ

Unlike those frequenting a jazz speakeasy during prohibition; you won't be breaking the law.  But we hope that after a few drinks you hit your Ballmer peak and have some mental breakthroughs.  Party assured; you are in good hands with our resident mixologist Justin Halsall, who will be curating the cocktail menu for the evening.
